The Eden district of Cumbria is home to many professional visual artists – painters, printmakers, sculptors, photographers, ceramicists, and feltmakers – who live and work in solitary studios tucked away in the countryside. Art in Eden 2009 celebrates this wealth of artistic talent in the district by offering a rare chance to meet artists in their own studios, watch them at work, explore their different techniques and styles, browse artworks – and possibly buy a piece of art too.
Touring around to the different artists’ studios - from Alston to Appleby, Kirkoswald to Kirkby Stephen, in the villages around Penrith and over to Threlkeld – you also get the chance to enjoy the landscape which inspires so much of these artists’ work. You can expect a warm welcome from all 30 Eden artists at their studios, and for a ‘taster’ why not head over to THE BEST OF EDEN EXHIBITION at Upfront Gallery, near Hutton-in-the-Forest, where there’ll be work by all the participating artists, to whet your appetite before you head off on your own exploration of Art in Eden.
