Description
Contemporary Heritage is an ambitious three year programme of contemporary site responsive commissions across Pennine Lancashire. The programme will launch at Towneley Hall and Park in September 2010 followed by a series of staggered commissions at Clitheroe Castle, Gawthorpe Hall, Helmshore Mills Textile Museum and up to three further sites. Contemporary Heritage is a partnership project, initiated and managed by Mid Pennine Arts.
We are initially looking to commission between one and three works which could be sited in the hall or grounds at Towneley, or in the nearby town centre. Towneley is keen for artists to look for ways to draw attention to the relationship between the hall and park. They would also like the artist to consider the family history, the architecture of the hall, and the park in their response.
It is strongly recommended that interested artists attend the artist site visit and tour on Thursday 4 February, 12noon-5pm, Towneley Hall. Attendance should be registered with Annette Birch abirch@burnley.gov.uk
