The FLI Residencies offer support to artists working with new technologies to develop their ideas and extend their practice, with a particular emphasis on participatory activity.

The programme meets a real need for artists to have access to the high quality discourse and enriching creative environments that Lanternhouse and folly provide. Based in Ulverston, on the edge of the Lake District National Park, resident artists are able to devote time and space to their practice, engaging collaboratively with the host organisations and a rich tapestry of local communities, artists and creatives in the Northwest of England. Details of previous artists in residence can be found at www.fliresidencies.org.uk

In 2010 one exceptional applicant will be offered a residency period of 2-3 months. This opportunity will be of particular interest to an artist who is naturally collaborative, seeking time and space to develop new works, research innovative ideas and deliver some truly participative activity.

£2000 is available to cover expenses and support the artist during their residency.

Full details available at www.folly.co.uk/news-items/call-artists-submissions-fli-residency-northwest-england.

Apply by email to imogen.mcgarvie@folly.co.uk. Deadline for receipt of applications Friday 18th June 2010, 12 noon BST

Description
We are delighted to announce 2Weeks 2Make It 2010, the North’s most exciting music video competition, is now open for submissions and once more Sensoria will host the Awards Night in April.

Established in 2005, ‘2Weeks 2Make It’ is the North of England’s premier music video challenge. It randomly teams up cutting edge filmmakers with the North’s up and coming musical talent, and gives them the challenge to make a music video in just two weeks!

To enter, download the application form on the syfn website (www.syfn.org/2weeks.html) and send it off to the address below with an example of your work. 2Weeks 2Make It accepts music submissions as CDs in the post, but you can also submit work electronically, by sending links to your website or Myspace page.

If you are a filmmaker, please supply an example of a film you have made. A music video is ideal, but shorts and short documentaries are fine too. You can also submit links to YouTube, Vimeo or similar social networking sites.

If you are selected to take part, there will be NO CHARGE for filmmakers to participate and only a £50 + VAT fee for musicians.

All participants will be welcome to attend the Masterclass and Training Day on Wednesday 31st March. This will be followed by a launch event, with live music, beer, food and plenty of networking opportunities. During this evening bands and filmmakers will be paired up.

The final, finished results of the challenge will be shown at the Gala Screening on 29 April, where the panel of judges will award their winner with top prize of £1000 and audience members will vote for their favourite for the ‘Audience Award’.

Send your submissions, including application form, by 29th March to:

The best young crime writers in Cumbria are being sought out in a national competition launched by the Crime Writers’ Association (CWA).

Organised by the CWA, which represents the interests of published crime writers, and library authorities nationwide the competition will appeal to writers aged up to 18 (born on or after September 1, 1991).

Stories should be submitted between January 18 and February 19 and the word limit is 1,000. They must be entered through participating libraries.

The entries will be judged by members of the CWA and local winners will be considered for the national prize to be announced during National Crime Fiction Week, which starts on June 14.

CWA Chair Margaret Murphy said: “’From Enid Blyton’s Famous Five and Anthony Horowitz’s Alex Rider series, right through to adult crime novels and thrillers, crime fiction is a vibrant and hugely popular genre.

“The Young Crime Writers Competition gives budding young writers the unique opportunity to have their work read by professional authors – and have fun writing.”
