Ireland based cellist and composer Ilse de Ziah has a deep passion for composing and arranging music for the cello. Using traditional Irish melodies as source material, she creates contemporary arrangements perfectly suited for the cello. With the marriage of classical detail and folkloric tradition, this makes for a transcendent musical experience. A male party formed and directed by folk singer – harpist Sian James, Parti Cut Lloi (“the calf shed party”) are now firm favourites on the eisteddfod, festival and concert stage. Their robust style owes a lot to the unaccompanied close-harmony “plygain” tradition which is still strong in the part of Eastern Montgomeryshire to which they belong.
