M6-M3 Unterwegs/Underway in Berlin is an international project sparked by a visit to Berlin made by artists from the Cumbria Network in the North West of England.
The resulting touring exhibition includes work by German artists who live and work in Berlin and share the same commitment to international networking.
The exhibition coincides with the 20th anniversary of the demolition of the Berlin Wall. An iconic, authentic section of the wall will be displayed at the Lancaster venue.
In England the exhibition takes place across three galleries: Alexandra Gallery, Lancaster; PR1 Gallery, Preston and the Harris Museum and Art Gallery, Preston, before transferring to Germany.
Beginning in Lancaster and ending in the M3 Kunsthalle in Berlin, the exhibition travels from the M6 motorway to the M3 gallery and marks a point when international projects and collaborations between the artists in the North West of England and Berlin are ‘Underway’.
The process by which twelve very diverse artists have come together for this project, and the changing dynamics of the group, have been as important as the tangible exhibition.
