CANOPY – 03.01.13 – 10.02.13

To mark the launch of our Canopy project we have created a mini indoor forest as part of Showcase art programme. Call into the Soup Shop and make and display your own paper birds on the trees.

SHOWCASE #8 – The Big Draw – October 2012

Eden Arts and The Soup Shop, Penrith are invited the public to join in with the Big Draw. Many people contributed to the giant “Eden in 2012” wall drawing and artist Alex Jakob Whitworth gave drawing demonstrations.

SHOWCASE #7 – Snapshot 2012– 18.08.12 – 27.09.12

The Snap Shot International Teenage Digital Photography Competition is a project of the Penrith Regional Gallery & The Lewers Bequest, Sydney. The competition has been running since 2007 and in 2012 they invited teenagers from Cumbria to take part. We selected a number of the best Cumbrian entries and exhibiting as part of the SHOWCASE exhibition programme.

SHOWCASE #6 – The Wool Clip – 10.07.12 – 15.08.12

Exhibition of woollen artworks created by members of the Wool Clip Co-operative in Caldbeck. On display will be a number of artworks which were originally created for the WOW exhibition at the Gallery@Rheged. To find out more about The Wool Clip visit their website HERE 

SHOWCASE#5 – Melissa Peacock – 14.04.12 – 14.05.12

Contemporary wool based sculpture exhibition . Melissa Peacock is a Sculptor, working with wool and other fibres woven onto metal structures. She has exhibited extensively and is featured in private collections in Australia, England, Scotland, Ireland, Europe and America; including the private collection of Sir John Mills.

SHOWCASE#4 – Flesh and Blood, Jac Scott – 10.12.11 – 31.01.12

Developed specially for SHOWCASE, ‘Flesh and Blood’ was a topical installation by nationally renowned artist Jac Scott that highlights issues surrounding food production and eating habits. Featuring work from her EAT series, strange cutlery glints under a pink, flashing neon light filling the space, questioning our eating habits through a sequence of cryptic messages.

SHOWCASE#3 – FLOCK – 05.09.11 – 09.10.11

Inspired by artworks such as Antony Gormley’s ‘Field for the British Isles’, Flock is a public art project which aims encourage creativity & collaboration, while raising awareness of the wool industry. The public are invited to contribute to an art installation which will be made up for Thousands of “real” wool pom-pom sheep. Schools, groups, organisations and individuals throughout the UK have already started the production chain, while running other woolly events and workshops to coincide.

SHOWCASE#2 – OUTSIDE:IN – 18.07.11 – 29.08.11

The second exhibition in the programme, OUTSIDE:IN is a collaborative video installation from artist filmmakers Andy Murray and Adam Clarke and photographer Tommy Martin. OUTSIDE:IN features a temporary tent structure of reclaimed wood, set in a ‘fake’ landscape filling the exhibition space. Inside the tent structure will be a looping series of videoscapes, capturing the elemental forces of the Lake District.

SHOWCASE#1 – THE PROCESS OF PAINTING

The Showcase programme was launched with the inaugural exhibition ‘The Process of Painting’ which displayed work by textiles weaver Laura Rosenzweig and abstract artist Gary Power that highlighted the similarities in how an abstract painter and weaver creates their artwork.

In 2011-13 we ran SHOWCASE a programme of contemporary artist exhibitions and community art projects situated in The Soup Shop in the Devonshire Arcade, Penrith. The project was organised in collaboration with Eden Arts and Devonshire Arcade owners Penrith Retail Ltd.
