SCRIPTWRITERS SOUGHT FOR LANTERNHOUSE PROJECT

Folly and Lanternhouse International welcome US-based artist James Coupe as one of their FLI Residents 2009. James will be ‘in-residence’ at Lanternhouse from July – September to develop the first phase of his new work Surveillance Suite.

James intends to create a series of films while he is here based upon Italo Calvino’s If on a winter’s night a traveller, transposing locations from the novel onto Ulverston. He is seeking up to 10 local script writers who would be interested to research ways of realising the story here, creating a new set of scripts and then working with him to link them together.

Surveillance Suite has already attracted significant interest internationally, attracting Creative Capital funding in New York and our attention here in the UK, and will continue to develop over the next few years. James will use face recognition software to transform our experience of Ulverston, and other worldwide locations, by capturing video footage, using camera profiling to identify ‘characters’ in the story and then auto-generating overlapping video montages of the scripted stories.

Local writer who are interested in the project are invited to come and meet James, find out more about the project and how they can contribute their skills. Contact Emma Bartlet as soon as possible for more information and in order to arrange an informal chat with James. T: 01229 581127 E: emma@lanternhouse.org www.lanternhouse.org
