The Anne Pierson Award for Young Writers 2010 continues to encourage Cumbria’s emerging writers to develop skills, confidence, and of course, offers the opportunity to win a share of prizes worth £1,000. This special award will be judged by playwright Kevin Dyer, Booker shortlisted novelist Sarah Hall and award-winning poet Jacob Polley, plus our special guest speaker Emma Jones, Wordsworth Trust Poet-in-Residence. The winning entries will be published in an Award anthology.
Supported by the Wordsworth trust, Friends of the Brewery, Absolute Printers, The Hadfield Trust, The Frieda Scott Trust, the Scott Trust, and individual donations.
How to enter
Write a poem, short story or monologue around this year’s theme. Send it, along with a completed entry form, to Anne Pierson Award, Brewery Arts Centre, Kendal LA9 4HE or linda.graham@breweryarts.co.uk by 31st December 2009.
The shortlist
Up to ffteen entries will be short-listed for the grand prize of £400 and two runners up prizes of £200 each. If your work is short-listed, you have won at least a £20 book token and publication in the Award anthology. We will let you know if you are on the list before 1st March 2010.
The winner & runners-up
Winners will be announced at an Award Ceremony at the Brewery Arts Centre at 7pm on Wednesday 10th March 2010. Prizes will be presented by our special guest, Wordsworth Trust Poet-in-Residence Emma Jones, and an excerpt from each of the short-listed entries will be read by professional actors.
