Over 100 people in Penrith and Eden have been nominated to feature in two newly created art works Face.Masks and Hiding in Plain Sight which are part of this year's reimagined Winter Droving festival.
As the usual festival activities have been cancelled due to Coronavirus, Eden Arts, the organisers of the Winter Droving released a call out to community groups, businesses and members of the public to nominate people around the theme of care.
Face.Masks will be projected onto St Andrew's Churchyard, Penrith between 28th October and 31st October, the event will also feature The Faery Trail by Lucas Chih-Peng Kao.
Timed entry tickets are now available to book. Eden Arts are asking for donations to support The Winter Droving going forward and Eden Arts work, as with many other arts and cultural organisations their income has been affected by the COVID pandemic and future work is at risk.
52 members of the public have now been photographed and videoed to become part of the projections. Cumbrian artist Zoe Forster has been recording footage of people for the installation. Eden Arts were introduced to Zoe when she was shortlisted for Eden Arts’ Young Cumbrian Artist of the Year earlier in the year, she is currently in her final year at the Slade School of Fine Art, University College London.

We have undertaken extensive planning in conjunction with officers from Cumbria Police and Eden District Council. We are working to all regulations and government guidelines to make this a Covid secure event, however we know that rules and guidance may change and we might have to change our plans. If we need to postpone it we will let you know as soon as possible.

Hiding in Plain Sight
Penrith town centre shop windows are being transformed and filled with large scale images of members of the public captured by Penrith based photographer Richie Johnston of Optical Vitamins. Each person featured was selected or nominated for their small acts of kindness, community work, or going above and beyond in their work. For more information click here.

When will tickets to the projections be released?

What Covid-19 Guidelines are in place for the projection display?
There will be a limited audience capacity for the event with timed entry tickets. Distancing information and guidelines will be in place around the event site.
One way systems on entry and exit will guide you through the site.
Please take advice and guidance from stewards at the event.

We are following the most up to date Government guidance and these measures may be updated before the event.
It is advised that you wear a face covering throughout the event.
You must abide by the local restrictions that are in place for your area.
What happens if guidance changes or there is an increase in restrictions?

What refreshments will be available at St Andrews Churchyard?
No refreshments will be available inside the event.
What entertainment is there?
This year's events are much different than previous years. The main display will be the projection on St Andrews Churchyard.
For 2020's event there will not be live music, street performance or market traders.
