An Intensive Course for Emerging Producers and Future Changemakers

Eden Arts, in partnership with Blank Wall Assassins, are offering a new initiative to bring together emerging producers and creatives in Carlisle to create a vision for the future of the city.

The Bigger Picture Emerging Producers/Creatives 2024

This opportunity is for a small cohort of emerging creatives to develop skills in the creative industry through project management, production and delivery of a varied selection of projects taking place with Eden Arts and Blank Wall Assassins in 2024. Successful applicants will also be invited to participate in a series of workshops with cultural experts from across Europe and contribute to a vision for the city of Carlisle. The idea is that by participating you will be learning and contributing.

Who is this for?
This opportunity is open to individuals from school leavers to those changing careers, who are looking to progress their creative careers, specifically seeking experience in producing cultural events, festivals, exhibitions etc. The ambition is to create the next wave of producers and creatives who will lead the industry in using culture to inform the future of Carlisle. The open call targets schools, colleges, universities and the wider community. Individuals can apply to the scheme and a shortlist will be invited to participate. Applicants from Cumberland will be given priority however this opportunity is open to individuals living in the North of England. This opportunity will offer a wealth of experience that can be applied in future professional roles and endeavours.

    Workshops

    Led by cultural experts from across the UK and Europe these unique workshops will offer the group the chance to discover different perspectives and approaches to producing outstanding events and cultural offerings rooted in community and place.

    Workshop Format

    Immersive workshops will take place over one day. Dates TBC but will take place in Autumn 2024

    Day 1: Meet at Eden Arts, The Old Fire Station, Penrith

    We think the day will look a little like this;

    AM - Workshop leaders will introduce the topic, themselves and their organisation and how their specific expertise affects change in the places they work.

    Lunch- Shared Lunch with Eden Arts team, workshop leaders and The Bigger Picture cohort. Individuals will be invited to share their experience to date in the area of producing events alongside their desired outcome form joining the current programme

    PM - Travel to Carlisle. Visit the city. Discussion led by workshop leaders. Transport to Carlisle from Penrith provided.

    Evening- Dinner and informal discussion. Meal provided by Eden Arts at West Walls Brewery.



    The Winter Droving

    Experience the making of a town transformed. The annual town festival, The Winter Droving, takes place on Saturday 26th October 2024 on the day the clocks turn back. A magical celebration of rural like, food, fun, masquerade and fire.

    You will assist in the behind-the-scenes production of the event working alongside the core Eden Arts team as well as a larger team of event staff and volunteers.

    NCNC

    Programmed as part of the Middlesbrough Art Week NCNC present their ‘film’ Legal Alien made in collaboration with the people of Middlesbrough in 2023. An immersive experience taking place on Sunday 29th September 2024 this event requires the Eden Arts team to install elements of the film throughout Middlesbrough in the days running up to the ‘screenings’ and during the event steward the various locations.

    NCNC (Nuovo Cinema Neo Cinetico) creates genre-blending film, photography, and art in public spaces produced by an artists collective based in Barcelona.

    You will take part in the installation of this event in Middlesbrough town centre seeing the process of installation through to the realisation of the event. You will assist in stewarding participants safely answering any questions surrounding the work.
