Winter Droving 2021

28th - 30th October

The Winter Droving is BACK for 2021 - different due to you know what...

This year’s festival is the 10th annual spectacle of feathery, fuzzy, and glittery animal masks to descend on Penrith town centre. For the first time in The Winter Droving’s 10 year history the event will be held over 3 days, celebrating Music, Art, Culture and Light. Rocking musicians, fire breathing performance art and larger-than-life illuminated lanterns, which will once again see droves of people descend into Penrith’s town centre ready to join in with the masquerade.

This year’s Winter Droving will be different because it has to be. With the potential gloom of COVID still hanging in the air, organisers have curated a festival that will abide by social distancing rules, if measures are to be put back in place. Whilst still being the same event that everyone knows and loves, it will be an opportunity for the town to celebrate after a turbulent past 18 months. The organisers aim is to once again bring people together and reignite the Cumbrian community spirit. Plus this year, you need a wristband!

We encourage people to come along on Thursday 28th and Friday 29th October, instead of just focussing on the usual Saturday. The fun-filled line-up will be very similar over the 3 days so there is no need to come on the Saturday with the expectation that it will be the highlight. This year there will be no parade to conclude the festival, each day will largely be the same.

The Winter Droving will span 3 days, from Thursday 28th to Saturday 30th October. There will still be the trademark spectacular music and street theatre performances, but in a more relaxed, cosmopolitan, piazza style setting. The town centre will host a food and craft market showcasing works from local artists, producers and an abundance of entertainment from midday until dark.
