This past week, we were joined by two year 10 students from a local secondary school. Abi and Lexi. We put them to work in the Eden Arts office and here is what they got up to.

Monday

Abi: On our first day, after we were given our induction and introduced to everyone in the office, Adrian and Lakota gave us a tour and explained what they did and some of the projects they were currently working on.

Lexie: Our first task of the day was data inputting to organise the Cine North prize draw, although it took a while it was useful to learn how to use the software. During the afternoon, we got to make our own faeries for the unseen project. This was easily my favourite task of the week!

Tuesday

Lexie: We started the day by painting a spinning wheel for Izzy’s Cine North prize draw! We then filmed her spinning it for the Cine North facebook page.

Abi: I enjoyed doing this as I got to be creative with the planning of how to do it and how to show it on social media. At lunch we were involved in the team lunch where everyone ate together and talked about upcoming projects and what was going on.

Lexie: After lunch, we helped Connie create some social media posts for Picnic Cinema. It was super interesting to learn how to make professional posts on facebook and instagram.

Wednesday

Abi: First on Wednesday, we were taught how to varnish the painted wooden signs and the bar and we did all of them. We then untangled and replaced some broken light bulbs out of fairy lights for the picnic cinema. For the rest of the morning, we did jobs such as finishing sewing a hare and finishing the rest of the party bags in preparation for Picnic Cinema.

Lexie: We then helped with more of the general prep for the event, such as making rosettes and buying equipment. Later on, we made more social media posts with Connie.

Abi: I really liked making the social media posts as I found it interesting how the tone and language changed based on the account we were posting on. I was also taught how to use the Meta Business suite which was interesting and good to know as many businesses use it now.

Lexie: I also interviewed Connie and Lily about their job roles for school. It was really interesting to learn about how they got the positions and what they do day to day, they also gave me some helpful advice about getting into this industry.

Thursday

Abi: On Thursday morning, we plugged some lights in to charge for the next event and then we were taught how to use a drill to make the signs ready to put up. After that, we printed, cut out and laminated some masks to use for dressing up at the picnic cinema. We then cleaned the fridge ready for the Picnic Cinema bar.

Lexie: In the afternoon we photographed the faeries we made, and created social media for each one.

How did you find the week?

Abi: I've really enjoyed my week at Eden Arts and I've found it a really good opportunity to find out about different careers in arts and think about what I would like to do in the future. Thank you very much for being so welcoming, it's been an amazing week!

Lexie: I’ve really enjoyed my week at Eden arts, and I'm very grateful for the opportunity. Overall, this week has given me a much better understanding of what it is like to work in an arts organisation. Thank you so much for being so welcoming, I have had a great week!
